Everardo Garcia Jr. is a 20-year-old 1st Assistant Director, Producer, Film Journalist/Critic, and Director.
I started to learn more about the world of filmmaking during my first year of high school with LTTV. During those 4 years, I directed and camera operated a lot of local broadcasting sports games, shows, and school activities. On the side, I self-taught myself to make short films with the help of my teacher. After creating my breakthrough short film "DUO", I knew what I wanted to do in my future which is to work in the film industry on making feature/short films and making connections.
I am currently studying at Columbia College Chicago with a BA in Film/Television. I have produced and directed five short films so far and collaborated with many local filmmakers. I grew my filmmaking skills throughout every short film and helped with other student film shorts. I also unlocked my new filmmaking skills like being an assistant director. When I'm not directing, I usually produce short films and AD (Assistant Directing) student short films. That's where I can expand my filmmaking skills.
Besides being on a film set, I write film reviews as a side gig. I run my own independent film reviews website called "Vizeit Reviews". Full of film reviews, extra content, and more! That's where I can improve my film analysis skills and expand my love for cinema. I just started doing film interviews with established and newcomer filmmakers. I'm also part of the Chicago Indie Critics Association which is filled with professional film critics. By attending many film festivals and conducting interviews, I can develop my professional film criticism skills and meet industry folks around the world. It's another great opportunity to get one step closer to the professional film industry.
I'm currently directing and producing my first professional short film called "Break-In" which is currently in post-production.
I'm grateful and blessed to show my projects and work in the world of cinema. I'm happy to meet new people and build connections around the filmmaking community. - Everardo Garcia Jr
